Giving Tuesday 2024 - The Manba Project

Manba is the Creole term for peanut butter. This year, HPI will run the Manba Project in its six schools. Hunger is the most severe form of violence in Haiti. The closure of the Port Au Prince Port because of gang violence has halted international food supplies. This worsens the food shortages in the mountains where farmers haven't received enough rain to grow crops. While HPI villages have never received international food donations, the port closures have left the population struggling to secure the limited food resources available.

HPI donors supported our villages with food relief for four months. However, food relief is not sustainable for small non-profits like HPI. Our organization focuses on programs and projects that foster self-sustainability. Due to climate change and civil unrest caused by gangs, HPI is temporarily shifting its mission to ensure the survival of the children. Therefore, HPI will provide a daily peanut butter sandwich to all the children in our schools. They will also take extra sandwiches home for their younger siblings who are not yet school-aged. The Manba is made from peanuts grown in Haiti and is more nutritious than what is produced in the USA. HPI will purchase it in five-gallon buckets. We are once again asking our donors to consider investing in this program. The program will cost HPI $2,000 per month for our six schools and 1,000 students. For many children, this will be their only meal of the day. Checks can be made out to Haiti Plunge Inc. / Manba.
